Call for applications from permanent Public Servants and People with Disabilities for new 2021 English Language short courses

For the second year running 50 Timorese men and women will have the opportunity to improve their English language skills via a fully funded four-month academic English language short course.

The training, commencing in February and March 2021, is designed to further the career and academic opportunities for permanent public servants and people living with a disability. It also provides a pathway for participants to apply for international scholarships including Australia’s own scholarship program, the Australia Awards.

English language skills are recognised by the Government of Timor-Leste, civil society organisations and the private sector as crucial for their staff to engage in an increasingly international work environment.

2020 English Language short course graduate, Amena da Costa, who is living with a disability and works for Australia’s Governance for Development Program said,

“This opportunity was a very significant learning process. I improved my academic English language including how to develop sentences, ask questions, think critically and communicate confidently at work. I also learnt how to work in a team by listening to other’s opinions and contributing to tasks.”
